Sharing Needles and Other Equipment

Diseases such as HIV and hepatitis can be spread through needles. Injection drug users (IDUs) are at particular risk for some STDS. IDUs are advised to use a new needle (rig) every time they inject. You can get new needles from needle exchange sites or sometimes, mobile vans. If you must share rigs, make sure you bleach the needle twice, pulling the plunger all the way back to fill it with bleach. When the rig is full of bleach, shake it and leave it in the rig for 30 seconds. After bleaching, clean the rig twice or more with purified water.
