HIV Risks for Gay Men

There are many great on-line resources for gay men so we have not duplicated these resources. We recommend the following:

Below are a few things that are not much discussed when it comes to gay sex and HIV transmission. This is important to know especially since numbers of new HIV cases among gay men (men having sex with men) went up in BC in 2000.

1. Be careful not to get semen or cum in your eyes as this is potenially risky. If you are aware of the risk, you can try to stay out of the line of fire. If you get semen in your eyes, they will sting. Don't rub your eyes. Try rinsing them with warm water.

2. Do not use another guy's semen when masturbating. You want to make sure not to let his semen contact your urethra. Don't let him use his cum to masterbate you. Don't let a partner put his finger up your anus if he has semen on his hands. He may have cum on his hand after masturbating, and then wish to 'help' you by putting his finger in your ass. Remember, semen can spread the HIV virus and other STDs.
